TOWARDS A VTC STRIKE DURING THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN PARIS IN 2024

Drivers of Transport Cars with Chauffeur (VTC) in Paris organized a snail operation on the ring road to express their dissatisfaction with their exclusion from the Olympic route during the Paris Games in 2024. A measure which contrasts with the authorization granted taxis to travel on this route during the competition, while VTCs, on approximately 185 kilometers of Parisian and peripheral roads, will be excluded.

According to the national VTC inter-union (INV), this exclusion is explained by the lack of regulation in the VTC sector, aggravated by the arrival of more than 60,000 new drivers, often part-time, and by the growing presence of mafia networks fraudulently exploiting this profession. The collective is therefore calling for the establishment of a numerus clausus aimed at regulating false profiles and cleaning up the profession.

Faced with the absence of responses deemed satisfactory, the demonstrations could evolve into actions of « civil disobedience ». A new mobilization is scheduled for January 11, 2024, and Brahim Ben Ali, secretary general of the INV, warns, indicating that, without an adequate response, VTC drivers could consider “taking the Olympic Games hostage”.
